You may be wondering should I make my teenager get a summer job or should I just let them enjoy their summer break? Well as a parent myself I surely can sympathize with this decision and it can be a difficult one. However in todays society I highly believe that helping your teenager get a summer job is important.

They will be learning how to be responsible with their money. As we all know that most teenagers have absolutely no idea how to budget their finances they tend to think that they can still get anything that they want. Well one of the reasons that I tend to believe that getting a summer job is important is because it will teach them how to be responsible and if you need some reasons of why you should help your son/daughter get a summer job then keep reading this article.

Importance of summer jobs:

1. Responsibility: We already mentioned this; however I feel that it is extremely important because as you may know most teenagers have absolutely no idea how to be responsible. Well a summer job is perfect for teaching them how to be responsible and how to stick to a daily routine. Besides it will show teach them the importance of school; who wants to drop out of school to flip burgers or bag groceries? I know that my kids now study harder because they want to go to school after they spent a summer working at McDonalds and other fast food joints.

2. Money: Summer jobs will teach them how to make their own money and will also show them that money does not just grow on trees. Your kids most likely think that you are made of money and seem to want the most expensive shoes, pants, music you name it. If it is “hot” and the other kids have it then most likely they want it as well.

3. Boredom: Now at first when school gets out they are all excited; however after a while of just sitting around at the house they will eventually become bored. Well the importance of summer jobs is that it gives them something productive to do besides staying at home and getting into trouble.

This is really a great way to teach your kids how to be responsible and how to go out their and work for their money. You should let them spend their money the way that they choose after all they are the ones working for it. However we did have our teenagers put some into savings for later on during the school year when they were not working. Hopefully this will help you realize the importance of summer jobs and why you should take the time to help your kids find that perfect summer job.
